Valentine DIY Paint Kit

Miniature paint set and canvas with valentines gift tags

When I think of gifts for my kids to give to their classmates I try to find or make gifts that are cute, easy and affordable – AND – let kids be creative! I steer clear of sweets and toys / tchotchke’s that are discarded after opening (by parents mostly ha!).

I found these mini paint palettes and canvases on Amazon. They come in sets of 12 and 24 and are very inexpensive. We are talking under $1 for each! Love that! My sons preschool class is only 11 kids but my daughters second grade class has 21 students. Buying gifts for all those kids adds up quickly. I try to keep classmate gifts under $3 each and still make them meaningful.

three hearts with a valentines message on them

The tag is extra special to me. I asked my friend Karli of @WinkandInkPaperie to make a cute tag to go with the gift and I think she nailed it.

I used yarn I had on hand from Hobby Lobby to tie it all together. You can use any yarn or ribbon you want and then have your child add their name. So easy it’s foolproof! My kids are really excited to gift these to their friends and I hope y’all love this as much as we do!

Here’s the Scoop Valentine

These delightful ice cream popper toys were a huge hit among the kids in Bristol’s Class. You can either place the poppers in a clear party bag decorated with a cheerful tag and pom-pom, or opt for these charming ice cream boxes from @gracecollectiveshop that you can easily print at home!

ROAR: Thank you for Being my Friendasuarus

An old classic that still shines! I think these Valentine’s were created for Bristol’s Preschool a few years back. They are printables from @theeverco, who still offers a delightful selection of cute designs! Whether you’re looking for something whimsical or something sweet, her collection has something for everyone. Perfect for adding that extra special touch to your child’s Valentine’s Day celebration, these printables make crafting easy and fun. It’s always a joy to see the little ones’ faces light up when they hand out their unique cards, each one a small token of friendship and joy.

You Make my Heart Race, Valentine!

Sterling’s sweet preschool baby class received these charming race car valentines one year. This is yet another fantastic printable from @theeverco. Valentine’s Day Heart Crayons

These charming heart-shaped crayons are created from recycled, broken crayons, making them perfect festive gifts for Valentine’s Day. With their vibrant colors and fun shape, each crayon tells a story of creativity and sustainability. Perfect for children and adults alike, these delightful crayons make art time even more special, encouraging everyone to express their love and imagination in a colorful, eco-friendly way. Whether you’re drawing a heartfelt message or adding a splash of color to your Valentine’s cards, these crayons are sure to bring joy and a touch of magic to any creative endeavor.

These printables were given by Bristol to her ballet class years ago, so I’m uncertain if they are still available. They are from @oliveandeveco, which features a delightful variety of Valentine’s Day designs.

I absolutely adore these printables so much, I’ve created a free download for you to enjoy.

Quick DIY Instructions:

To create recycled crayon hearts using a silicone baking pan, follow these steps:

  • Remove Crayon Wrappers: Soak your broken crayons in warm water for 10–15 minutes to loosen the paper, then peel off the paper.
  • If working with new crayons, break them into smaller pieces. You can do this either by hand or by using a knife.
  • Fill the mold: Place the crayon pieces into the silicone mold, adding pieces until each heart shape is filled. Feel free to mix different colors for colorful hearts.
  • Bake: Set the mold on a baking sheet and bake at a low temperature until the crayons have melted. The temperature and time may vary based on your oven, typically around 225–275°F for 15–25 minutes.
  • Cool: Allow the mold to cool completely on a heat-safe surface.
  • Remove crayons: Carefully pop the crayons out of the mold.

An alternative idea is to place the crayon hearts into clear plastic party favor bags and attach an adorable personalized Valentine’s Day sticker. These stickers are available from @joycreativeshop. Don’t forget to use my discount code KRISTENS10 to enjoy 10% off stationery at joycreativeshop.com.

Valentine, You Melt My Heart!

These fun ice cream and popsicle erasers are perfect for a charming Valentine! Paired with an adorable popsicle-shaped party favor box and a festive Valentine tag from @EvergreenAshDesigns, they have become the top choice for Valentine’s Day in the class!

Equipment for Classmate Valentine’s Day Gifts:

I use a home printer to print them on bright white cardstock. If you don’t own a printer, you can also get them printed at places like Walgreens, FedEx, or an office supply store such as Staples.

XO, kRISTEN
