Frequently asked Questions:
Can I make this soup on the stove top? Of Course!
In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add celery, onions, garlic, and carrots, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent. Combine precooked chicken, chicken broth, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and Italian seasoning in a pot; bring the mixture to a boil, then gently stir in the gnocchi. (If you’re cooking the chicken directly in the soup, make sure to boil the soup until the chicken is fully cooked and then shred it before adding the gnocchi.) Continue boiling for an additional 3-4 minutes, then reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes. Stir in the heavy cream along with the spinach, cooking for another 1-2 minutes until the spinach is tender. Taste the dish, adjust with salt and pepper as needed, and serve.
Can I make this soup in the instant pot? Yes!
Sauté: Begin by setting your instant pot to the sauté function and melting the butter inside. Add diced onion, garlic, celery, cooking them until they soften, which should take about 2-3 minutes. Next, stir in Italian seasoning, nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Incorporate the chicken, and then pour in the chicken broth, making sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot. Add the chicken breasts, ensuring they are fully submerged in the broth.
Pressure Cook: Secure the lid and set the instant pot to pressure cook on HIGH for 6 minutes (this timing is for smaller, 4-ounce chicken breasts; if yours weigh around 8 ounces, pressure cook for 8-10 minutes). Once the cooking time is complete, let the pressure release naturally for 5 minutes, then carefully release any remaining pressure manually. Shred the chicken: Open the lid, remove the chicken, shred it, and return it to the soup.
Finish Soup: Switch the instant pot back to the “sauté” setting. Stir the heavy cream and Boursin Cheese into the soup. Add the carrots and gnocchi, allowing them to simmer until the gnocchi are cooked through (this should only take a few minutes). Finally, stir in the spinach and let it wilt for one minute before serving.
Watch how to make this amazing soup!

I hope this recipe provides exactly what you need to create a wonderful meal for your family with minimal preparation. Whether it’s a calm Sunday evening or a hectic night after school, I’m confident you’ll appreciate the simplicity of this crockpot soup. Enjoy!

Can you make them printable? I’m old school! Thanks for the recipe.
Hi! If you click “jump to recipe” button there will be a “print this recipe card” button above the recipe card. This will pull up a PDF that you can print. Hope this helps!
My crockpot isn’t working
Noticed you can make on stove .. but your recipe isn’t very detailed for that version … after sautéing, just add Boursin , nutmeg etc. ?
I’m cooking the chicken separately.. no way it would be done in the time frame you have listed for stove top version .
I realize your recipe is for a crockpot, & don’t mean to be critical , but for the other versions of cooking , they need to be more detailed
Hello Deb! I’m happy to provide you with more details! Using precooked chicken is the easiest method to guarantee that the chicken is thoroughly cooked. If you decide to include uncooked chicken in the soup, ensure it reaches a boil until the chicken is fully cooked before incorporating the gnocchi. I recommend removing the chicken to shred it before adding the gnocchi as well. I hope this information is helpful!
You might want to check your page on this soup . The printable version doesn’t list Boursin cheese pic or nutmeg
The recipe listed above it does
This was good, but if you cook this on low or high in crockpot the gnocchi falls apart by the time you serve it.
I would recommend adding it towards the end with enough time to cook it.
Hi Doreen! I’ve modified the recipe to include the addition of the gnocchi along with the spinach. This adjustment will help keep the gnocchi intact.
Just making this soup and you changed step 3 but didn’t change step one, so it’s a bit confusing on when to add the gnocchi! Can’t wait for it to be done. Smells delish!! Thank you!
Hi Michelle! Thanks for calling this out.
Hi your recipe says to add flour but in the video there was no flour, what does that do?
Hello Chloe! Adding flour will only slightly thicken your soup. Feel free to add it if you desire a thicker broth.
Could I use frozen spinach?
Yes you sure can!
How can I freeze this for post partum? Thanks
Hi! Yes you absolutely can! Just put portions in freezer containers. To reheat frozen soup, the best method is to first thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and then gently reheat it on the stovetop over low heat, stirring frequently to prevent burning; if you need to reheat quickly, you can partially defrost in the microwave before transferring to the stovetop to finish heating throug
